Subfloor Assessment
Level check, moisture testing, structural integrity inspection, and identification of soft spots or damage.
Flooring installation in Connecticut costs $6 to $25 per square foot installed, with most projects completed in 1 to 2 weeks. Hardwood, LVP, tile, and engineered wood, from subfloor prep through final finish.
Flooring installation in Connecticut costs between $6 and $25 per square foot installed depending on the material, and most residential projects complete in two to five days. Whole-home installations or projects requiring subfloor repair may run seven to ten days. Every project is managed by our in-house team, not subcontracted out. We hold a Connecticut Home Improvement Contractor license (#0668405) and carry full liability and workers' compensation insurance.
The right flooring choice depends on the room, the level of the home, moisture exposure, and how you use the space. Connecticut's seasonal humidity swings make those decisions more consequential than they are in more stable climates. We install flooring throughout Fairfield and New Haven Counties, both as standalone projects and as part of larger kitchen, bathroom, and basement renovations.

A complete flooring installation covers subfloor assessment and preparation, removal and disposal of existing flooring, underlayment, the installation itself, transition strips, base shoe or quarter-round molding, and cleanup.
We start every flooring project with a thorough assessment of the existing subfloor. We check for level, moisture content, structural integrity, soft spots, and any damage that needs correction before new material goes down. A quality floor is only as good as what is underneath it, and subfloor problems that get covered up show up quickly in the finished surface.
Standard installation includes removal and disposal of existing flooring, subfloor preparation and leveling where required, appropriate underlayment for the material being installed, the installation itself to manufacturer specifications, transition strips between rooms and between different flooring types, and quarter-round or base shoe molding where the floor meets the baseboard.
We move standard furniture within the work area at the start of installation and replace it once the new floor is in. Additional scope that adds cost includes subfloor repair or replacement for damaged sections, custom patterns or inlays, floor leveling with self-leveling compound over larger areas, or the removal of multiple layers of existing flooring.

The projects below illustrate how flooring work integrates with larger renovation scopes and what the results look like in finished Connecticut homes.

A Greenwich homeowner wanted to restore the original hardwood floors hidden under carpet for decades. We removed the carpet, assessed the subfloor, sanded and refinished the original oak, and installed new hardwood in rooms where the original was beyond repair.
"The floors look better than we imagined. BuiltWell saved us the cost of full replacement."
Homeowner
A homeowner in Milford chose to extend new LVP flooring through the kitchen, dining room, and into the adjacent living space for a continuous look. The flooring selection unified three connected areas that had previously had different materials.
"BuiltWell made it easy. They showed up when they said they would, cleaned up every day."
Homeowner
A Cheshire family needed flooring that could handle seasonal humidity changes throughout the main level. We installed engineered hardwood across the living room, dining room, and hallways with proper acclimation and transition strips at every doorway.
"The floors are holding up perfectly through the seasons. No gaps, no squeaks."

Connecticut's climate creates specific challenges for flooring that a contractor without local experience may not account for.
Seasonal humidity swings from the humid summers to the dry heating season in winter cause solid hardwood to expand and contract in ways that produce gaps, squeaks, and cupping when the material is not properly acclimated or when the wrong product is used in the wrong location. Proper acclimation before installation is essential. Solid hardwood needs three to five days on-site in your home's environment before it can be installed. Skipping acclimation, or delivering material to a job site and installing it the same day, is one of the most common flooring mistakes we see undone during renovation work.
Coastal homes in towns like Westport, Guilford, Milford, Madison, and Branford have elevated ambient humidity year-round from proximity to Long Island Sound. Salt air and higher baseline moisture levels affect material selection in these areas. Solid hardwood in a coastal home that experiences regular seasonal humidity above 60 percent will move more than the same product installed inland. We assess the specific conditions at your home and recommend accordingly.
Basement flooring has its own requirements in Connecticut. We test moisture levels in concrete slabs before recommending any flooring product for below-grade installation. LVP and tile are the reliable choices below grade. Engineered hardwood can work when moisture levels are confirmed to be consistently within acceptable ranges. Solid hardwood and carpet do not belong in Connecticut basements.
Pre-1980 Connecticut homes are also worth examining before assuming replacement is the right choice. A significant number of homes from this era have original hardwood flooring under carpet that was covered during a renovation decades ago. That wood is often structurally sound and worth restoring through sanding and refinishing rather than replacing. We assess what is there before recommending what to do with it.
Every flooring project follows the same five-step process, beginning at the consultation with a subfloor assessment and material review, and ending with a final walkthrough once installation is complete.
